Event Details:

Dr. Lark Welch is a Professor of the Masters Athletic Training Program @ Manchester University. She holds bachelor of science degrees in biology and athletic training from the University of Mary, Bismarck, ND. She earned a master’s degree in exercise science from Northeastern University, Chicago, IL in exercise science and cardiac rehab and her PhD is in Athletic Training from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, Provo, UT.  Dr. Welch’s research interests include injury prevention, therapeutic modalities, and strength and conditioning.

Prior to obtaining her role at Manchester University she was Assistant/Associate Professors respectively in Athletic Training Programs in IL and ND, where she has combined 22 years of teaching experience. Her clinical experience/direct patient care, which expands over 30 years, includes being an athletic trainer in high schools and working in outpatient rehabilitation clinics. Dr. Welch additionally brought the Frappier Acceleration Sports Training Programs (Fargo,ND), now known as Athletic Republic (Salt Lake City, UT), to IL in 1996.  She worked with sports performance enhancement programing for local facilities, club teams, and the Chicago Blackhawks Hockey Team for over 10 years; and she still believes that “prevention is the best medicine”.

Her doctoral dissertation was a nested-case control study where she investigated if hip ranges of motion affected anterior cruciate ligament knee injuries (non-contact). In her quantitative study, Welch collected D1, D2, D3, and high school age female basketball players hip ranges of motion. Welch enjoys guiding students in student-faculty research projects, as well as working with other experts on her areas of interests. She has co-authored 4 studies to-date, and has 6 on-going works, and has worked with over 20+ student research projects in the past 10 years.
